Teen Weightlifting

This Weightlifting program is intended to do three (3) things:

  • Provide a SAFE and supervised weightlifting environment
  • Provide the athlete with a solid program for strength, stamina and conditioning.
  • Provide the athlete a solid knowledge of proper technique in performing lifts.

The teenage years are a prime opportunity to introduce athletes to weightlifting. The strength gained from this program can be complementary to any sport. CrossFit Virtus used this programming over the last summer/fall and we were impressed with the results so much so that we wanted to offer this to others.

Our Weightlifting program teaches mechanics first. Only when mechanics are solid, and consistency is shown, we will allow the athlete to progress with increased weights or repetitions. Our intent is to provide the athlete with knowledge of proper technique so when that athlete does weight lifting on their own or at school without supervision, risk of injury is minimized.

The sessions will be three (3) days per week coached by Coach Bernard and/or Coach Cody. The sessions will use the Wendler program that concentrates on the four (4) basic compound lifts: back squat, deadlift, bench press, shoulder press, and also incorporates complimentary accessory exercises for the movements. The Wendler program is based on percentages of one rep (1-Rep) max effort lifts, established at the beginning sessions.
The session will begin Tuesday June 1, lasting nine (9) weeks, ending August 2. Each session will last approximately 1.5 hours
